Follow-up to PartnersInWealth Women’s Forum Event

September 20, 2013

This past Tuesday we hosted the 3rd Annual Women’s Forum, “Sustainable World” with co-host, Ten Thousand Villages.

To those who attended, thank you for making the event a success. For those unable to attend, we missed you and want to share some highlights of the event.

The evening included lively networking among the ladies, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones as well.

Some of the topics discussed were:

• Different types of sustainable development: social, environmental, economic and political.

• Organizations in Houston that contribute to a sustainable world, such as, Medical Bridges and Living Water.

• The mission of Ten Thousand Villages, a truly inspiring, action-oriented organization that offers thousands of handmade goods and benefits artisans around the world. Through fair trade, artisans (primarily women) improve their homes, educate themselves and their children and put food on the table. Their work also improves the economic vitality of their communities.

• Today, fair trade is a growing worldwide movement. As a founding member of both the World Fair Trade Organization and Fair Trade Federation, Ten Thousand Villages leads the movement with more than 60 years of experience.

Our focus with this event continues to be on women and it was the women of PARTNERSINWEALTH, Sabina Gartler, Leah Hughes, Christie Currens and Kristina Eastman who organized and implemented the evening’s festivities. A big thanks to Jim Waters for his support and trust of our creative ideas.

Thank you for joining us and sharing your thoughts. We are always open to and welcome your ideas and comments.
